# Move or delete a menu item

> Choose another category for an item or remove it from the menu after reviewing the confirmation.

Move an item when you want to organize it under another category. Delete an item when it should be removed from the menu. Check its name, price and current category before choosing either action.

## Who can do this?

**Owners and Managers** can move and delete items. Staff stock changes do not include these actions.

## Where to do it

Open **Menu** in the web app and select the item in list or grid view.

## Move an item

1. Open the category selector in the item editor.
2. Choose the destination category in the same shop.
3. Review the item's other details and guest visibility.
4. Save your changes.
5. Return to Menu and open the destination category to check the item.

To move an item, the destination category must already exist. If it is missing, close the editor, create it under **Manage categories**, then reopen the item.

Moving uses the existing item. You do not need to create a copy and delete the original. The destination category's visibility affects whether guests can see the item, even if the item's own visibility is on.

Review the saved result if a message appears during the move. Other edited details may already have been saved, so check the existing item before repeating the whole edit.

## Delete an item

1. Open the item you want to remove.
2. Select the trash icon at the top of the item editor.
3. Read the item name and the permanent-deletion warning.
4. Cancel if you meant to make only a temporary change, or confirm to delete it.
5. Return to Menu and check the result.

Use stock availability when an item has temporarily run out. Use guest visibility when it should remain available to the team but be hidden online. Those changes do not require deletion.

## Platform notes

These steps describe the web app. Check the current menu in the mobile app or guest ordering page after a move or deletion. Refresh a view that was already open before the change.

## Market notes

Moving an item does not automatically choose a new VAT treatment. Review the item's tax setting separately if it needs to change. Check the selected shop before editing similarly named items across locations.

## Troubleshooting

If an item cannot be found in its expected category, clear Menu's search and check other categories. Another team member may have moved it. If saving or deleting fails, reload the current item before retrying instead of creating a replacement immediately.
