# Move cash in or out of a drawer

> Record cash added to a drawer, taken to the safe, swapped for other notes and coins or paid out as tips.

Record every physical cash movement that is not a sale or refund, so the drawer's recorded notes and coins keep matching what is really inside. A movement does not create a sale or change an order's tip.

## Who can do this?

**Owners and Managers** can record cash movements in an open drawer. **Staff** cannot; they see that a manager is needed. Staff can move cash to the safe only while closing a drawer, and only when the shop allows it.

## Where to do it

In the web app, open **Settings → Cash drawers**, select the drawer and choose **Move cash**. If the drawer is closed, you first open it with its retained cash or a new count.

In the mobile app, open **Sell → Cash drawers**, select the drawer and choose **Move cash** on the **Drawer** tab.

## Steps

1. Select **Move cash** and choose the **Movement type**:
   * **Top up** (mobile: **Add cash**): cash goes into the drawer, for example change from the safe.
   * **Cash to safe** (mobile: **Drop to safe**): cash comes out of the drawer.
   * **Denomination exchange** (mobile: **Exchange denominations**): swap pieces for others of the same total value.
   * **Tip payout** (mobile: **Pay out tips**): cash tips leave the drawer.
2. Enter a **Note for your team (required)**, such as the safe bag number. The note stays in the drawer's activity.
3. Enter the quantity of each note and coin under **Put into drawer** or **Take out of drawer**. For an exchange, fill in both sides with equal totals.
4. For cash to the safe, **Move all cash to safe** (mobile: **Move all cash**) or **Move banknotes only** fills in the quantities for you. **Clear quantities** starts again.
5. Tick **I confirm these exact pieces have physically moved.** (mobile: **I confirm these exact notes and coins have physically moved.**).
6. Select **Record actual cash movement** (mobile: **Confirm the displayed cash movement**).

The movement appears in **Recent activity** (mobile: **Activity** tab), and **Inside the drawer** shows the new quantities.

## Check the activity

On the web page, **Recent activity** lists up to 100 recent entries: sales, refunds, openings, movements and count differences. Choose **Count differences** to see only recorded differences, and **Show older entries** to load more. The mobile app offers the same filter on the **Activity** tab.

## Platform and market notes

Both apps record the same four movement types for drawers in pounds or euros.

In Germany, top-ups, safe drops and tip payouts are also fiscally recorded; a denomination exchange is not. If **Cash saved · fiscal sync pending** appears, the cash is saved: do not move it again.

## Troubleshooting

If you cannot take out the quantities you entered, the drawer record does not contain them. Count the drawer when you close it to correct the record.

An exchange is only accepted when both sides have the same total and the pieces actually change.

If **Move cash** is missing, check that you are signed in as an Owner or Manager and that the drawer is open with no cash exchange or count in progress.

In Germany, if a movement is refused because fiscal setup is incomplete, ask the Owner to check **Settings → Fiscal compliance**.
