# Activate, pause or end a promotion

> Make an offer available, pause it temporarily or end it permanently.

Use the promotion's controls to decide whether customers can use an offer. Activate it when it is ready, pause it for a temporary stop, or end it when you no longer want to use it.

## Who can do this?

**Owners and Managers** can change a promotion's status for their shop.

## Where to do it

Open **Promotions** in the web app, check the selected shop and open the offer. Review its discount, eligible products, dates, times and code requirements before changing its status.

## Activate an offer

For a draft or paused promotion, select **Activate** and wait for confirmation. Check the updated status in the list.

Activation makes the offer available within its configured schedule. It can still show **Scheduled** if it is outside that schedule. Even when it shows Live now, an order must meet the offer's conditions before receiving the discount.

Offers managed as part of a plan cannot be activated directly here. If activation is refused for that reason, contact Tapp support with the offer’s name. You can still pause an active plan-managed offer or end it here. After pausing it, the direct Activate control remains unavailable for resuming that offer, even if the button is displayed.

## Pause temporarily

For an active promotion, select **Pause** and wait for the status to change to **Paused**. This keeps its settings while stopping new uses of the offer.

When you are ready to resume a manually managed offer, open it and select Activate again. Recheck its dates first: pausing does not move the original end date or extend the offer's schedule.

## End permanently

1. Open the promotion and select **End promotion**.
2. Check the name in the confirmation and read the message.
3. Confirm only when you want to end this offer permanently. While the request is pending, both buttons are disabled and clicking outside the confirmation does not close it. Wait for the result.
4. Return to Promotions and expand **Show ended** to find the record.

An ended promotion cannot be activated again or edited. If you want to run a similar offer later, create a new promotion and review its settings. Use Pause when you only need a temporary stop.

Active and paused offers are also automatically marked as ended after their end date, using the shop’s local time. This status update can happen later than the date cutoff; the offer cannot be newly applied after its schedule expires. Draft offers are not automatically ended by this cleanup. Review a draft’s dates before activating it.

## Platform and market notes

These steps describe the web app for shops in Great Britain and Germany. Schedules use the shop's local time zone. A status change is separate from whether an offer is shown to guests; review guest visibility when deciding how to share it.

Pausing or ending an offer does not remove discounts already saved on existing orders and does not refund an order. Check existing orders separately if a customer needs money returned.

## Troubleshooting

If a change fails, read the message, refresh the promotion and check its current status before retrying. Another manager may already have changed it. Confirm the shop and your access if the action is unavailable. If the detail page says the promotion does not exist, return to the list and try opening it again: a loading or access error can produce that message too. Contact Tapp support if the offer's saved status remains unclear.
