# Create a percentage or fixed promotion

> Set up an offer with a percentage or money discount, choose its conditions, and launch it for your shop.

Create a percentage or fixed discount for eligible orders or menu items, with a schedule and conditions for use.

## Who can do this?

Owners and Managers can create promotions for their shop. Staff cannot create or manage them.

## Where to do it

In the web app, select the correct shop, open **Promotions** and select **New promotion**.

## Set up the offer

1. Enter a clear name that you would be comfortable showing to guests, such as “Weekday lunch offer”.
2. Choose a percentage or fixed amount and enter a value greater than zero. A percentage cannot exceed 100. Use no more than two decimal places for the value and check the saved discount. For a money discount, check the shop's currency.
3. Choose **Whole menu**, **By category**, or **Specific items**. For a targeted offer, select at least one category or item.
4. Select **Continue** and set the days, hours and optional start and end dates. **Always available** removes weekday and daily time restrictions; enabled date limits still apply.
5. Continue to the final step and choose how the promotion is applied. You can choose an offer selected at the point of sale, an offer with an optional shareable code, or one that requires a code.
6. If a code is required, enter it before launching. Use 8–64 characters from A–Z and 0–9, without spaces or punctuation. For an offer with an optional shareable code, you can leave the code blank.
7. Choose whether the offer is **Visible to guests**. When this is off, guests cannot use it on the guest ordering page, even with a code.
8. Review the limits: the form starts with a promotion-wide limit of 200 uses. Change it or turn it off as needed. Add a minimum spend if required, then review the summary before selecting **Launch promotion**.

## Check the result

After a successful launch, Tapp opens the promotion's details. Check the name, discount, selected items, schedule, limits and any code before sharing the offer. An enabled minimum-spend or usage-limit switch can still save no restriction if its value is blank or zero. A promotion scheduled for a later date or time will not be usable immediately.

Launching an offer does not apply it to every order automatically. It still needs to be selected or redeemed in the chosen way, and the order must meet its conditions. See [how promotions are applied](/en/promotions/choose-promotion-application-mode) for the available choices and access at the point of sale.

## Platform and market notes

These steps describe the web app. Guest visibility controls use on the guest ordering page. Fixed discounts and minimum spending amounts use the shop's currency in Great Britain and Germany. Schedules follow the shop's local time, even if you create the offer from another time zone.

In the mobile form, usage limits start blank. Leave optional limits or minimum spend blank for no restriction; entered values must be positive, and usage limits must be whole numbers. Review pasted values: punctuation is removed from usage limits, and percentages above 100 become 100. Codes become uppercase without spaces or punctuation.

For mobile time restrictions, the end must be later than the start on the same day. After a launch error, check the offer and code before retrying: the promotion can already be active when code creation fails.

## Troubleshooting

* If **Continue** is unavailable, check the name, discount amount and selected items. On the schedule step, check the days, times and dates.
* If you cannot launch, check any required code and its format. Enter positive whole numbers for usage limits.
* If launch reports an error, return to **Promotions** and refresh the list before trying again. The promotion or code may already have been created. Open any matching offer and inspect its status and codes to avoid duplicates.
* If the result is unclear, contact Tapp support with the promotion name and the message shown.
