# Allow tips and guest ratings

> Choose whether your shop accepts tips and invites guests to leave ratings.

The checkout switches control whether tips and ratings are allowed for the shop. They are separate choices. Turning tips on does not automatically show a tip prompt on every device or make every order eligible for another tip.

## Who can do this?

Owners and Managers can change checkout preferences. Staff cannot save these settings. The main web settings page also saves payment preferences, which require an Owner; ask an Owner to check the result if a Manager encounters an error there.

## Where

In the web app, select the intended shop and open **Settings → Checkout rules**. Find **Allow tips** and **Allow ratings**. The separate tipping settings page contains the mobile tip-prompt and sharing choices.

## Set the checkout choices

1. Confirm the shop and review whether each switch is on or off.
2. Set **Allow tips** according to whether the shop should accept tips.
3. Set **Allow ratings** according to whether guests should be able to rate their completed order.
4. Review any other unsaved changes on the main settings page.
5. Choose **Save changes** and wait for the update. Reopen the settings to confirm both saved values.
6. Check the relevant guest or mobile experience with freshly loaded settings. A flow that was already open may not reflect the change yet.

## If you want a mobile tip prompt

Allowing tips is the overall shop choice. The mobile checkout prompt also needs to be enabled in the shop’s tipping settings and allowed on the device. Tapp must have the feature available for the shop’s setup. Read any availability message in tipping settings before troubleshooting the device.

Tip sharing, suggested amounts, and device preferences are separate from the main checkout switches. Enabling tips does not allocate an existing tip, create a payment, or change an existing rating.

## Ratings and guest orders

The guest order page offers ratings for completed orders when ratings are enabled and it can confirm access to that order. Guest tipping also depends on the order’s eligibility and any tip attempt already in progress. A missing action does not necessarily mean the shop switch failed to save.

On the guest progress page, **Rate your experience** offers one to five stars. Selecting a star sends the rating immediately, without a separate Save button. A later successful selection updates that guest’s rating for the same order. Further star taps are ignored while a rating is saving, so rapidly tapping a different score may leave the first selection.

The stars fill before saving is confirmed. The page currently gives no separate success or failure message, and reopening it can show empty stars even after a rating was saved. Ask the shop to check the order if the result matters; the stars alone do not confirm the saved value.

## Platform and market notes

These steps describe the web checkout settings for shops in Great Britain and Germany. Mobile tip prompts and guest tipping use different screens and conditions. Check the experience your team or guests actually use rather than assuming both will show the same prompt.

To change guest ratings, use **Allow ratings** in the web app. The mobile app’s tipping settings do not offer a rating switch. Changing **Allow guest tips** there keeps the existing rating choice.

## Troubleshooting

After a save error, reload each settings group you changed. The page saves several groups together, so the checkout choices can save even if another group fails. For a missing tip prompt, check the shop’s tipping settings and the device preference. For a missing guest action, confirm the correct completed order and refresh its page. Contact Tapp support if the saved settings and available actions still disagree.
