Add an item to your shop’s menu so it is ready for ordering, or open an existing item to update it. Review the selected shop and category before saving, especially when similar items appear in several locations.

Who can do this?

Owners and Managers can create items and edit their details. Staff can change stock availability but cannot make these full menu changes.

Where to do it

Open Menu in the web app. Select Add item, or select an existing item in list or grid view.

Add or edit the item

  1. Enter the item name and choose its category.
  2. Enter the customer price, including the applicable tax, and select the VAT option shown for your shop.
  3. Add a description, tags, preparation duration or variations if needed.
  4. Enter the optional cost per item if you want to use it in margin reporting.
  5. Add a photo if needed. The item editor accepts JPG and PNG images up to 5 MB.
  6. Review guest visibility to decide whether guests should see the item online.
  7. If price lists are available, review the separate prices for those lists.
  8. Save and check the item on the Menu page.
Use a decimal point for the standard price, item cost and variation amounts, for example 12.50. Do not include currency symbols or thousands separators. Check the saved amounts: a decimal comma can be read incorrectly in these fields. Press Enter after typing each tag to add it. Tags need 2–25 characters, and the editor accepts up to ten. Give each variation a name; unnamed variation rows are not saved. Changing an existing item’s category moves it to that category when you save. Review the destination category’s guest visibility as well as the item’s own setting.

Check partial saves

The item, photo and price-list amounts can have different save results. If a photo or price-list save error appears, the item itself may already be saved. In that case, reopen the existing item to correct that part. Do not create it again.

Platform notes

These instructions describe the web app. Saved menu changes are used when ordering from the mobile app and guest ordering page. An already-open menu may need to refresh before showing the new information. In the mobile item editor, price and cost accept either a decimal point or comma, with up to two decimal places. Enter amounts without currency symbols or thousands separators. Reopened amounts follow the shop currency, for example 7.50 for pounds or 7,50 for euros. In the mobile editor, add each variation with its + button before saving; enter a name and an amount, including 0 for a free option. A cost-above-price warning does not prevent saving. Scroll through the form to reach the remaining fields and Save. If the mobile editor reports a save error, check whether the item already exists before trying again. Its details may have saved even if the photo upload or category move failed. Reopen that item and check its photo and category instead of creating a duplicate.

Market notes

Select the VAT option for the shop’s operating market. Item cost and customer price are separate fields; adding a cost does not change what a guest pays.

Troubleshooting

If the main save fails, keep the form open and check the item name, category, standard price and any price-list fields marked invalid. Some fields depend on your menu display settings. If the name field is missing and you cannot save a new item, contact Tapp support. After any partial-save message, inspect the existing item before retrying. Contact Tapp support if a saved change still does not appear after refreshing.
