Use AI import to turn an existing menu into categories and items for your shop. Review the results before using them for sales: an import can create menu items, but it cannot check every business decision for you.

Who can do this?

Owners and Managers can upload, process, cancel and remove menu-import files. Staff cannot manage imports.

Where to do it

Open Menu in the web app and choose its AI import action. Owners can also import a menu from the setup checklist.

Import your files

  1. Check the selected shop.
  2. Choose one or more JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, PDF or DOCX files.
  3. Keep each file at or below 10 MB. A PDF can contain multiple pages; use separate files when your menu is saved as individual images.
  4. Wait for uploading to finish, then select the action to process the files with AI.
  5. Watch the result for each file while it is waiting or processing.
  6. When processing completes, continue to review the created menu.
  7. Correct item names, categories, prices, tax choices, descriptions, variations and guest visibility as needed.
Adding files and starting processing are separate steps. If a file is rejected because of its format or size, replace it with a supported file before starting.

Check each file’s result

The rotating messages during processing are an animation, not a live stage or percentage. Use each file’s status to check whether it finished. Files can finish independently. One failed or cancelled file does not mean that every file failed. A completed file can already have added items to the shop’s menu. Imported does not guarantee that every item was created: compare the result with the original menu, including missing items. Use the X beside a waiting or processing file to request cancellation. For an uploaded file that is ready to process, the X removes the file. Completed files have no remove button. A failed file may still show an X, but removal can be rejected; contact Tapp support if it cannot be removed. Closing the import window does not cancel processing or remove created items. Check and edit the menu separately. The window focuses on recent uploads rather than a complete import history. Starting processing includes all unprocessed uploads for the shop, including older files that may not be shown. If you are unsure whether old files are still waiting, check with Tapp support before starting another import.

Import in the mobile app

While editing the menu, tap the upload icon in the top bar. In Upload menu, choose Take photo, Upload photo or Upload document. You can select up to five photos from the photo library at once. Use clear images, PDF or DOCX files; keeping each file within 10 MB also lets you use the web flow above. The picker closes before uploading finishes. After the selected files upload successfully, processing starts automatically: there is no separate processing button in this flow. Menu upload started means processing was requested, not that the menu is complete. Review the resulting items before sales. If an upload fails, other files may already be saved but still waiting to process. Check the import files in the web app before uploading them again. Starting another successful import can also process older waiting files for the shop.

Platform and market notes

Created items can become part of the menu used by the mobile app and guest ordering page, so check their visibility promptly. Review VAT and prices for the selected shop’s market in both Great Britain and Germany. Importing a document is not confirmation that every recognized value is correct.

Troubleshooting

If processing fails, check that file’s status and inspect the menu before uploading the same pages again. This helps avoid duplicates from files that succeeded. Use the manual menu editor if you need to continue while an import problem is unresolved.
