Count the drawer once when a shift ends. Your confirmed count closes the drawer and corrects its record; differences go to a manager for review.

Who can do this?

Owners, Managers and Staff can count and close an open drawer. Staff can move cash to the safe while closing only when the shop allows it (see Set up cash drawers). Only Owners and Managers can open the drawer for the next shift and review counts.

Where to do it

In the web app, open Settings → Cash drawers, select the drawer and choose Close drawer. In the mobile app, open Sell → Cash drawers, select the drawer and choose Count and close.

Steps

  1. Select Close drawer (mobile: Count and close). Cash payments in this drawer pause while you count.
  2. Enter the counted quantity of every note and coin. Use expected quantities fills in the recorded quantities for you to correct. If the drawer is recorded as empty, confirm it is empty or choose There is cash to count.
  3. If your count differs from the record, add a Note for your manager (required) or choose Reason unknown (mobile: Counted again; reason for difference unknown). To flag any count, tick Ask my manager to review this count and add a note.
  4. Under What stays in the drawer?, choose Keep all cash in drawer, Move all cash to safe or Leave a float; move the rest to safe. For a float, enter the Notes and coins to keep.
  5. To keep all cash, tick I have counted and checked these notes and coins. and select Close drawer.
  6. To move cash, select Continue to cash transfer (mobile: Save count and review transfer). Move the cash shown to the safe, tick the confirmation and select Finish closing (mobile: Cash moved — close drawer).
The drawer shows Closed with the cash left inside and the recorded count difference. Before moving cash you can still choose Edit before moving cash (mobile: Edit count — no cash moved) or Cancel before moving cash (mobile: Cancel closing — no cash moved). If you started closing by mistake, choose Started by mistake — cancel count (mobile: Cancel count).

Open the next shift

An Owner or Manager selects Open drawer (mobile: Open drawer with retained cash). The drawer opens with the cash left at closing, without a new count. If the cash changed, choose Adjust opening cash (mobile: The cash has changed — count again) and count it. A difference needs a note and stays available for review.

Review counts

Owners and Managers find Count reviews below the drawer in the web app, or the Reviews tab in the mobile app. Needs review lists counts with a difference, a flag or a requested follow-up; All counts and notes shows every opening and closing count. Enter a Review note, then select Mark reviewed or Request follow-up (mobile: Needs follow-up). A review never changes the count or the cash in the drawer. If the cash is different now, count it again.

Platform and market notes

In Germany, closing a drawer only records its physical cash count. The fiscal closing in Settings → Fiscal compliance is a separate step. You can close a drawer before the fiscal day is closed. If Cash saved · fiscal sync pending appears after closing, do not move or count the cash again; select Check fiscal sync / retry (mobile: Retry fiscal sync).

Troubleshooting

If a message says a manager must finish the cash transfer, edit the plan to keep all cash in the drawer, or ask an Owner or Manager to finish it. If closing or opening is blocked until earlier cash is fiscally recorded, wait, or ask a manager to check Cash reconciliation. If a saved cash exchange is waiting in the drawer, finish or cancel it before closing.
