Use Fast Charge when you need to add an amount that is not a menu item. It adds a separate line to the current basket, alongside any products already selected. Adding the line does not take payment.

Who can do this?

Owners, Managers and Staff can add a Fast Charge to an order for their shop.

Where to do it

In the web app, open Point of sale and select the keypad button beside Continue to payment. Check that you are working in the correct shop before entering the amount.

Add the amount

  1. Enter the amount using the keypad. Digits fill the amount from the right: entering 1, 2, 3, 4 gives 12.34 in the shop’s currency. Check the decimal position before continuing.
  2. Use backspace to remove the last digit if the amount is wrong.
  3. Select the displayed VAT rate to see the available choices. Check the selected rate for this sale; a rate may already be filled in.
  4. Select Add description to explain what the charge is for. Enter a short, customer-friendly description, then press Enter or select outside the field.
  5. Select Add charge to tab.
  6. Review the new line and basket total before continuing to payment.
The amount you enter includes VAT. Choosing a rate splits this amount into the sale value and VAT; it does not add VAT on top. The description is optional and can contain up to 120 characters. A clear description helps distinguish this charge from other items when you return to the order later. Check the amount again after editing the description. Typing numbers or pressing Backspace while the description field is open can change the charge amount instead of editing the description.

Leave without adding

Select Back to order to return to the basket without adding the amount. You can also use Escape. If you have already selected Add charge to tab, inspect the basket instead of entering the same charge again.

Platform and market notes

These steps describe the web app for shops in Great Britain and Germany. The amount uses the shop’s currency, and the VAT choices follow the shop’s market. Fast Charge does not create a reusable menu product or offer that product’s options. For a regularly sold product, use its menu item so you can choose its available options. Follow your shop’s agreed VAT treatment; the preselected rate is not a decision about what you are selling. In the mobile app, the keypad also fills the amount from the right and shows a decimal point: entering 1, 2, 3, 4 displays 12.34. Enter more than zero and no more than 9,999.99 in the order currency. Use backspace to correct the amount and + to add it to the basket. Mobile descriptions allow up to 64 characters.

Troubleshooting

If Add charge to tab is disabled, enter an amount greater than zero and make sure a VAT rate is selected. If the rate list has not loaded, wait or reopen the screen before proceeding. If continuing to payment fails, check whether the charge is already in the basket before adding it again. Contact Tapp support if the order cannot proceed after you have checked the amount and rate.
